Senior Research Manager, J-PAL Africa

Archana is a Senior Research Manager at JPAL Africa, where she leads the Water, Air, and Energy Lab in collaboration with the City of Cape Town. In this role, Archana works closely with decision makers at the City of Cape Town and beyond to integrate cutting-edge evidence into policy. She co-identifies and generates actionable research on critical policy questions related to access to clean air, water, and reliable energy in Cape Town.

Before joining JPAL Africa, Archana spent 4.5 years at JPAL South Asia, where she managed projects across the energy, environment, water, and health sectors. During her tenure at JPAL SA, Archana collaborated with a diverse group of Principal Investigators, leading data collection efforts and managing field projects across various states in India. Archana has also engaged with high-level government officials and played a pivotal role in scoping new studies with electricity distribution companies in India. Her work included evaluating the nexus between groundwater and electricity conservation, as well as assessing the impact of smart metering on energy loss.

With over six years of experience in the development sector, Archana has effectively liaised with both private and government partners to influence policymaking in her previous roles.

Archana holds a postgraduate degree in Economics from Symbiosis International University, India.
