Kate Orkin is Associate Professor in Economics and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford and an affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) (Development and Labour programmes), the Institute of Labour Economics (IZA), and the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE). She works in labor, behavioral, and development economics in East and South Africa. She designs and tests interventions that aim to increase employment, earnings, and productivity. Examples include cash transfers to facilitate entry into higher-return self-employment, improving the information employers have about workers’ skills, or improving processes of matching between firms and workers.
Kate has served on the review board of J-PAL's Social Protection Initiative.
