Scaling-Up Breakthroughs Gender Attitude Change Program Digitally to Improve STEM Outcomes for Girls in Rural India

The proposal motivates an "adapt and test" approach to adapt Breakthrough's "Taaron ki Toli" (TKT) gender sensitization program for students participating in Avanti Fellows online education programs. Breakthrough’s content will be adapted into digital modules for contexts of Avanti Fellows students, across Haryana and Himachal Pradesh in India. Post-adaptation, the test phase will include an online randomized control trial. Students of grades 8 and 9 will be allocated to one of two arms testing, i) Breakthrough's adapted gender attitude change and ii) a control group. The interventions will be targeted at students in grades 8 and 9. These students will be tracked and outcomes will be observed across grades 8, 9, and 10. The main outcomes of the program will be students’ gender attitudes and girls’ aspirations, subjective expectations, and STEM outcomes. Successful interventions will be scaled using Avanti Fellows' existing partnerships with multiple state governments.
