Nurturing STEM Talent in School

In this project, the researchers will address the issue of underrepresentation of women in STEM by focusing on the participation of girls in advanced coding clubs in the Italian context. Preliminary results from another experiment show that single-sex coding clubs positively impact girls’ trajectory into STEM fields. In this experiment, first, using randomization at girls’ level, the researchers will study whether the participation in mixed-gender or single-sex classes affect high-stake track choices and the perception of stereotypes in the school and society. Second, the researchers will investigate whether training on empowering communication could improve interaction among genders and potentially counteract any negative impact of mixed-gender clubs.
