King County’s Equitable Building Decarbonization Initiative
King County’s 2020 Strategic Action Plan set countywide climate goals of reducing GHG emissions 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2050 compared to a 2007 baseline. One key initiative is the Energize! pilot, which aims to install approximately 150 heat pumps in White Center and Skyway-West Hill unincorporated areas. To increase the rate at which community members replace fossil-fuel based appliances with highly efficient electric appliances, the King County Equitable Building Decarbonization Initiative will focus on reaching low-to-moderate income (LMI) residential households and work to reduce barriers to decarbonization for those households (and cities across the County). King County is interested in identifying the barriers that prevent low-to- moderate income populations from adopting decarbonization strategies.
