Incorporating Environmental Education into the School Curriculum
Despite a long history and recent efforts to integrate environmental education into school curriculums, effective implementation remains challenging due to teachers’ varied beliefs about climate urgency and different levels of prior exposure to these topics, all while needing to fit this content into existing school hours without disrupting other subjects. The researchers plan to conduct the first randomized controlled trial in the Philippines to examine whether a teacher training intervention in environmental education can overcome these challenges. This study will assess the effects on both teachers’ and students’ environmental beliefs and actions towards climate change, as well as on students' learning outcomes in environmental and non-environmental subjects.
