Empowering Girls' Education in Crisis-Affected Regions of Northern Nigeria through Mobile Learning Initiatives
Attainment of basic education for every individual is a major foundation for the socio-economic development of any society. Despite the importance of education, Nigeria still records the highest rates of girl child school dropout worldwide, exacerbated by insecurity issues in the north caused by Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping, and herdsmen activities (United Nations Children’s Education Fund [UNICEF], 2021). As many schools have been close particularly girl-schools due to persistent attacks. To address this challenge and ensure basic education of girls, Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC) a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving girl-child education launched a mobile learning initiative in northern Nigeria. This initiative provides access to mobile learning resources which include learning applications and educational videos, while establishing mobile community learning centers at safe and accessible locations to enhance educational outcomes of girls in insecurity-prone areas of Northern Nigeria. The project seeks to examine the effectiveness of this initiative through a series of structured activities, perform exploratory data analysis, and develop appropriate study designs.
