Working at J-PAL Europe
Our work by team
The J-PAL Europe office is based in Paris at the Paris School of Economics. We recruit new staff members to work with us on one or more of our four teams: the Policy and Communications team, the Research team, the Training team and the Finance and Operations team. We also run an internship programme.
Policy and Communications team
The Policy and Communications team at J-PAL Europe works to distil and disseminate the main lessons and policy implications from completed research to help bring evidence to bear upon Europe’s most pressing social issues, including issues pertaining to social inclusion, climate action and humanitarian effectiveness. Our core policy activities include synthesising and sharing findings from existing research and working with decision makers across the continent to identify evaluation questions and launch new research as well as help partners consider the generalisability of study findings and apply lessons to new settings. The team also helps new potential partner organisations consider how to build rigorous impact evaluations into their work.
Research team
The Research team at J-PAL Europe helps create the infrastructure necessary to support our affiliates’ research in Europe. Our research staff forge relationships with implementers on the ground and contribute to the design of survey instruments, data collection, statistical analysis and data publishing. They also create practical research resources and make them accessible to all. Our research team focuses on tools designed to help researchers develop and carry out randomised evaluations, and to support those teaching the method to others.
Training team
The J-PAL Europe Training team organises online courses, trainings and customised workshops for policymakers and programme implementers on the use of randomised evaluations and evidence more generally, and also contributes to building the capacity of local researchers across Europe.
Finance and Operations team
The Finance and Operations team at J-PAL Europe undertakes tasks related to financial management, budgeting, accounting, operations management, compliance, human resources and strategic planning. It also provides crucial administrative support to all of our work and supports the organisation of events and management of research initiatives.
Internships and vacancies
Internships
J-PAL Europe regularly welcomes interns to contribute to, and learn about, its work to promote rigorous impact evaluation. The Policy and Communications team advertises one internship each autumn for a start date the following year. Additional internship opportunities may be advertised on a needs basis on our careers page.
All internships are based at the Paris School of Economics and last between three and six months. Interns must be enrolled in an education programme and be able to provide a “convention de stage”. Interns receive a stipend (“indemnité de stage”) and other benefits in accordance with the relevant host institution’s rules, and have access to J-PAL training opportunities.
