Anchored by a network of more than 900 researchers at universities around the world, J-PAL conducts randomized impact evaluations to answer critical questions in the fight against poverty.

Our affiliated professors are based at over 120 universities and conduct randomized evaluations around the world to design, evaluate, and improve programs and policies aimed at reducing poverty. They set their own research agendas, raise funds to support their evaluations, and work with J-PAL staff on research, policy outreach, and training.

Rohini Pande is the Henry J. Heinz II Professor of Economics and Director of the Economic Growth Center at Yale University and Co-Chair of J-PAL's Political Economy and Governance sector. She is a co-editor of American Economic Review: Insights. Her research focuses on the economic analysis of the politics and consequences of different forms of redistribution, principally in developing countries. She is interested in the role of public policy in providing the poor and disadvantaged political and economic power, and how notions of economic justice and human rights can help justify and enable such change. In 2022, she was awarded the Infosys Prize in Social Sciences.
Rohini serves as Co-Chair of J-PAL's Political Economy and Governance sector and Co-Chair of the Governance Initiative. She has also lectured at J-PAL training events.
