Ntuthuko Hlela

Ntuthuko Hlela is a Research Associate at J-PAL Africa. Previously, he worked at the World Bank, the Southern Africa Labor and Development Research Unit, and the University of Cape Town. During his tenure at the World Bank, Ntuthuko participated in various projects examining the impact of fiscal systems of Asian and African countries on poverty and inequality. His tasks included coding, data analysis, and report writing.

At South Africa Labour and Development Research Unit, Ntuthuko was a member of a team of experts that modelled and produced a report informing the South African presidency about different ways to optimize the Social Relief of Distress Grant. During his time at UCT, he served as a tutor for Quantitative Methods in Economics.

Ntuthuko holds a BA in Economics and a BCOM Honours in Economics, both earned with distinctions of Summa Cum Laude and Cum Laude, respectively. Currently, he is in the final stages of completing a two-year Master's in Economic Development degree at the University of Cape Town, one year was spent at the University of Paris Pantheon Sorbonne in France.
