Anchored by a network of more than 1,000 researchers at universities around the world, J-PAL conducts randomized impact evaluations to answer critical questions in the fight against poverty.

Our affiliated professors are based at over 120 universities and conduct randomized evaluations around the world to design, evaluate, and improve programs and policies aimed at reducing poverty. They set their own research agendas, raise funds to support their evaluations, and work with J-PAL staff on research, policy outreach, and training.

Sarah Baird is a professor of global health and economics and Vice Chair in the Department of Global Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University. Her research focuses on the microeconomics of health and education in low- and middle-income countries, with an emphasis on gender and youth. She has experience running randomized evaluations in countries across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and is currently collaborating on projects in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Sarah received her PhD in agricultural and resource economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
