About us

J-PAL was founded in 2003 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) by Nobel laureate professors Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, and Sendhil Mullainathan. J-PAL South Asia is the largest and the oldest regional office of J-PAL.

J-PAL is known for its experimental approach towards alleviating global poverty, anchored by a network of 262 affiliated professors at universities around the world. J-PAL affiliated professors have over 1,100 ongoing and completed randomized evaluations in 91 countries. Over 100 million people have been reached in India (540 million globally) by programs and policies that have been informed by evaluations by J-PAL affiliated professors.

The Veddis Foundation empowers organizations looking to solve societal challenges in India through evidence-based giving with the potential to create measurable and irreversible social impact.
