Identifying MSMEs with high-growth potential

Consulting services can assist firms’ efforts to improve their management practices by providing a diagnosis and tailored improvement plans. In a district in West Java, researchers conducted a pilot study against the backdrop of a government-led consultation program. Our initial engagement with the program implementer highlights low demand for the service as a common challenge, which may stem from a lack of awareness among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the limited ability of consultants to reach out to potential clients.

This study aims to test different strategies to identify the MSMEs with high-growth potential, such as through peer, community, or consultant information. The research results aim to inform ways to improve the targeting and impacts of the program and increase the take-up of the consultation programs.
