Using Evidence in Policy Making - Impact Evaluation Workshop

16 – 17 July 2014: Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) Malawi and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, jointly held a custom training workshop intended to build capacity in understanding methods of impact evaluation and learning to critically use evidence in the policy decision-making process.

Drawing on expertise of J-PAL and IPA’s large academic research network, the two-day workshop provided participants with practical guidance for understanding impact evaluation, as well as an introduction to evidence from the large body of research conducted in Malawi and elsewhere on what works to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods, with special focus on agricultural finance, education and health.

The workshop was held at the Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) in Lilongwe, Malawi, and was attended by over 70 participants including policymakers, researchers, academics, donors and development practitioners.
