Overview and Description

The "Challenges and Chances in the Labor Market in Egypt and Beyond" conference is hosted by J-PAL Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and will be held at The American University in Cairo (AUC) on the 10th of November, 2024. It is organized in partnership with the Gender, Growth and Labour Markets in Low-Income Countries Program G²LM|LIC, which is led by the Institute of Labor Economics and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

The conference will gather practitioners, academics, and development experts to discuss pressing labor market issues, with a particular focus on female labor force participation.  It will also provide an opportunity to explore ideas around enhancing job quality, addressing informality, and ensuring inclusive access to employment opportunities.

The conference serves as a precursor to a three-day Advanced Course on Evaluating Social Programs (ESP), providing a platform for knowledge exchange and fostering connections between policy and research prior to the commencement of the advanced ESP course.
