Project Manager - London School of Economics - Kigali

The team of Prof. Rocco Macchiavello from the LSE Department of Management is seeking an independent, and skilled Project Manager/Research Assistant to support ongoing research in development, industrial organization, international trade, applied microeconomics for one year in the field.

The selected candidate will be in charge of the field management of the Farmers Development Program project. This project is a partnership between our team and one of the world’s leading coffee multinationals, its main objective is to explore how to build and manage relationships with small-holder farmers, but it also focuses on topics related to gender and climate change resilience in the context of the Rwandan coffee chain.

Responsibilities: The job will include a variety of tasks, such as maintaining relationships with stakeholders, supervision of local project support staff and appropriate implementation of research design and randomization, data collection and data cleaning, analysis and generating outputs. Further, the selected candidate may have to work on writing, creating presentations and editing research papers. We envision this role as a bridge for recent graduates interested in developing practical research skills. For those candidates interested in development, field work is likely to provide a good understanding on the moving parts of projects in developing countries. The position is ideal for people that want to later pursue doctoral studies in economics or other related disciplines – past holders of the post have successfully applied to top programs in US, UK and Europe.

Qualifications: The successful candidates should have a completed Master or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in economics or other closely related discipline, strong quantitative and data analysis skills, and be able to manage their own areas of responsibility independently without constant direct supervision. Experience in Stata is essential. We are looking for someone with fluency in written and spoken English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can communicate effectively to different audiences, conveying complex technical information in a clear and accurate manner. This position would be suited to candidates with a long-term interest in progression to a doctoral program and conducting research in economics.

The selected candidate, conditional on meeting certain performance standards, may have the opportunity to progress to other roles, potentially based in London with the PIs leading the project.
