Role Summary
A Policy Associate working with JOI Brazil would focus on translating research insights into practical, evidence-based policies that address labor market challenges in Brazil.
The role would involve synthesizing and communicating research findings to policymakers, facilitating discussions and partnerships between JOI and key stakeholders (government agencies, NGOs, and other public and private organizations), and supporting the integration of evidence into policy design and evaluation.
This role would likely require strong skills in research dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and an in-depth understanding of Brazilian labor market issues, including gender and racial inequalities, informal employment, and economic mobility. The associate would be crucial in ensuring that JOI Brazil’s evidence-backed strategies are effectively communicated and considered in policy formulation to improve labor market outcomes in Brazil.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Partnership and Project Development: Cultivate and manage partnerships with government entities, NGOs, and key stakeholders, identifying and establishing opportunities for collaboration on labor market policies and program impact evaluation.
Evidence Dissemination: The associate will translate JOI Brazil’s research findings into accessible and impactful formats, such as policy briefs, reports, and presentations. She will be responsible for tailoring these outputs to resonate with policymakers, ensuring that evidence is presented in a way that aligns with current labor market needs and policy contexts in Brazil.
Event Planning: Organize and facilitate events, such as workshops, conferences, and roundtable discussions. These events are designed to foster dialogue among policymakers, academics, and community leaders and to promote evidence-based policy practices in labor and employment. Responsibilities include event logistics, content planning, speaker coordination, and post-event follow-up to maximize the impact of JOI Brazil’s evidence dissemination efforts.
Strategic communications: Developing communications strategies for research results and policy insights.
Qualifications
Education: A master's or doctoral degree in economics, political science, public policy, or a related field. Preference will be given to recent graduates. Knowledge of the design and analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) is desirable.
Languages: This job is based in Brazil, so full proficiency in Portuguese is expected. Advanced English is needed as you also frequently interact with the global and regional teams. Fluency in Spanish is a differential.
Experience: 2 or more years of relevant and substantial work experience, including work related to impact evaluations and evidence-informed policymaking.
